KSJO Pioneering Radio.Cloud’s New Caller Intensive Live Studio

By Andrew Scaglione

SAN JOSE, Ca. – Silicon Valley Asian Media Group is the latest radio company to choose Radio.Cloud’s radio playout studio and programming suite for its automation capabilities.

“We chose to migrate our four channels to Radio.Cloud transcending out of the traditional broadcast studio/engineering facility set-up,” said CEO Brad Behnke. “It essentially positions our company to be able to scale quickly and efficiently providing necessary, live and locally-produced content without needing an expensive office or studio complex with the flexibility of originating a live studio from anywhere.”

The cluster is highlighted by KSJO-FM/HD1 (Bolly 92.3-South Asian) and includes KSJO-HD2 (Virijallu FM-Telugu), KSJO-HD3 (SaFire Radio-South Asian Podcast Channel) and KSJO-HD4 (High-Fi Dream). All four stations are using Radio.Cloud’s browser-based operating system including the ability to broadcast live from anywhere.

“Bolly 92.3 is broadcasting live for several hours each day in a way that no other radio station ever has,” Radio.Cloud CEO and Founder Christian Brenner said. “This complex operation takes place completely in a web browser and includes multiple live SIP calls with a call waiting feature, all driven by the Radio.Cloud live studio. With three mainly automated stations and one heavily live, KSJO is truly embracing the power of our cloud platform.”

Radio.Cloud has redefined programming for me, and I believe it will do the same for the entire industry when they choose to take the leap,” KSJO Program Director Gregg Pirillo explained. “Being able to program from anywhere in the world is an advantage in and of itself, but with access to a “Live Studio’ as well, for myself and all our hosts, we are finding it to be a dream. Working step by step with the brilliant team at Radio.Cloud has allowed us to develop a system fit our specific needs, and with more capabilities than we’ve ever had.”

In August, once KSJO had transitioned 100% to Radio.Cloud they were able to quickly move out of their sizable studio operation and engineering facility to a more streamlined and cost-effective studio space in downtown San Jose before the end of the month. Because of the small hardware footprint that Radio.Cloud offers, this was a seamless transition that ultimately saved the cluster money.

“Radio.Cloud combines the capabilities we needed to deliver live, caller-intensive, interactive, voice tracked and remote shows along with the ability to provide a seamless, well-programmed, music structure on each of our channels,” added Behnke. “The Radio.Cloud team was fully supportive every step of the way and effectively integrated our existing traffic system into their platform as well as adding several feature requests from our own wish list. This streamlined approach has given our small efficient team the tools necessary to increase our bandwidth and take the group to the next level. We envision using Radio.Cloud in each new market we enter as we continue to rapidly scale our South Asian radio group platform into 10-15 more markets across the U.S. in a short amount of time.”

“This is the future for the radio industry, and thankfully for us the future is now,” Pirillo summed up.
